Our Learning Areas

Whether working one-on-one with a teacher or in a small group, the children at Creative Preschool have ample opportunities to listen and follow multi-step directions. It is our hope though to create motivated, self-directed learners.

Creative Preschool fosters environments that encourage children to LEARN THROUGH PLAY. We carefully curate our classrooms with materials and experiences that encourage children to learn as they engage with their classroom and classmates.

Here’s a sampling of JUST SOME learning areas that our classrooms have!

Outdoor Play and Movement

Development of gross motor skills is encouraged by activities which support strengthening of muscle control, balance and coordination. Our beautiful playground is used daily to exercise our large muscles. It also includes a large sand box and gravel pit! When the weather does not allow for outdoor play, we use the large multipurpose room upstairs to engage our muscles in obstacle courses, ride plasma cars, throw and catch balls or even kick soccer balls around.

Block Area

Constructive play helps to encourage concepts of size, numbers, shape, and weight all while children are working collaboratively with peers to accomplish a task. Eye-hand coordination, spatial reasoning and a sense of accomplishment are also fostered here. Building is not limited to just blocks as we have an extensive variety of building materials which rotate throughout the year.

Writing Center

Writing Center activities encourage children to see the connection between oral language and the written word. From writing letters to Santa, to following mazes and paths, scribbling notes to Mom or perhaps even writing letters and words, children will gain confidence and small motor control by using writing tools.

Music

Music activities are designed to help children explore sound and enjoy singing, listening, and moving to music. By using recordings, instruments and voices, children learn rhythm, beat, and pitch. Our Music Enrichment teachers visit monthly but music happens daily in every classroom!

Free Art Center & Easel

Art projects provide children with opportunities to expand their creative expression and imagination. Great fine motor skills are also practiced here. Our free art center and easel encourages self-directed art projects that are unique to each child.

Dramatic Play

The dramatic play area enhances creative expression, imagination, oral language and storytelling skills by offering a wide variety of multi-cultural and age appropriate materials. The dramatic play area changes and grows over the course of the year in keeping with Holidays, special events, or units of study.

Reading Center

We have an extensive library of age-appropriate literature which is rotated on a regular basis. This comfortable and cozy area provides a quiet place to read and relax alone or with another child. Book reading strengthens cognitive, listening and language skills.

Sand Play

Our large sand tables allow children to explore using their five senses! Concepts of weight and volume are also explored here.

Science Center & Sensory Table

Our science tables are changed regularly to encourage daily examination and experimentation. Simple tools, measuring devices, sensory tables, scales, and magnets are all used here!

Listening Center

We have a listening library which is rotated on regular basis. The listening center encourages following directions, listening attentively, cooperating with others all while strengthening cognitive and language skills.
